Beginning of the Climbing Season on Mt. Fuji

Main content starts here.

The beginning of climbing season on Mt. Fuji is on July 1 every year, marking the start of the mountain's summer season. On the day before the season's start in Fujiyoshida City, a ceremony is held to celebrate the coming of the climbing season.

On June 30th, a group of Fujiko priests and other mountain priests worshipping Mt.Fuji will gather at the Kanatorii Park in front of the first Kana-torii gate of Mt. Fuji where a traditional Shinto ritual for purification will take place. After a speech delivered by the Mayor of Fujiyoshida, the entire group will march up to the Kitaguchi Hongu Fuji Sengen Shrine where an opening ceremony of the Yoshida trial will take place. Come celebrate the beginning of climbing season on Mt. Fuji, the highest and the most sacred mountain in Japan!
