Takeda Jinja Shrine Visit (Jan. 1 ~ 3)

Hatsumode, or the first shrine visit of the year, is usually celebrated on the first three days of the new year in Japan. Called “san-ga-nichi,” or “the first three days,” people go to shrines (or sometimes temples) to make wishes for the new year. Often, people will go on midnight of January 1st.

Every year, approximately 200,000 people visit Takeda Jinja Shrine on the first three days of the new year.

Sweet sake is offered for free on midnight of January 1st and free sake or wine will be offered from 9 am on January 1st ~ 3rd.

Time: 9:00 ~ 16:00 (except on midnight of January 1st)

Location: 2611 Kofuchumachi, Kofu, Yamanashi Prefecture 400-0014

Access: Get off at Kofu Station on the JR Chuo Line and take the North Exit. There is a shuttle bus that goes to Takeda Jinja Shrine. (Public transportation is highly recommended during this time.)
