Ichinomiya Sengen-jinja Shrine located in Ichikawa-misato-cho, Nishi-yatsushiro-gun, Yamanashi Prefecture, is an old shirne constructed during the reign of Emperor Keiko. Originally, Sengen Taisha Shrine was constructed in Decemnber, 864, the next year of the large-scale eruption of Mt. Fuji, in Shotaiyama Mountain according to Imperial command, and authorized as Imperial Shrine of Special Status. Then, it was moved to its current location in October, 924. When various kinds of azalea in the shrine premises fully bloom, the whole area of the shrine is surrounded by beautiful pink blossoms. The festival for bloom gazing, called “Tsutsuji Matsuri,” is held on the second Saturday of May, and many people come to see the azalea. Why don’t you refresh yourself in azalea blossoms in full bloom at Ichinomiya Sengen-jinja Shrine?
The best time to see the azalea blossoms is early May.
