Cherry Blossoms at Fuji Omuro Shrine

Main content starts here.

Area:Mt. Fuji/Fuji Five Lakes

It is the most traditional shrine of Mt.Fuji whose rear approach becomes a cherry blossoms tunnel. Usually it is quiet shrine, but in the season of cherry blossoms, 200 trees of Somei-Yoshino go in bloom and those elegance adds the gorgeous colors to the site of the shrine. Every April 29, Takeda-ryu Yabusame Shinto rite is held. A horse carrying a samurai runs in the site where the cherry blossoms are blooming, and the rider shoots an arrow from horseback, which is miraculous feat. In that day, this place gets crowded with people who want to see Yabusame (archery on horseback) and to enjoy cherry blossoms. It tells of the arrival of spring.
