Hon 8th Staion Tomoe-Kan (Mountain Lodge)

Hon 8th station Tomoe-Kan was called ‘Shaka-Do’ in the Edo period. It is located 3,400m above sea level, and the distance from this point to the peak is only 376m. In the old days, there was a room which enshrined Shakanyorai (Shakamuni, Buddha). In the Meiji period, due to Haibutsukishaku campaign of destroying statue and buildings of Buddhism, the statue of Buddha was taken down from Mt.Fuji and it went missing. After that, in the Taisho period, the pedestal of lotus flowers on which the statue of Buddha was sitting, was found. The replica of the statue of Tainiti nyorai, the Buddha of All-Illuminating Wisdom (son of the sun) from the attached shrine of Kitaguchi-Hongu-Sengen Jinja (the head shrine of northern Mt. Fuji), is enshrined carefully at the Tomoe-Kan of Hon 8th station .
The service: lodging, room for rest (1,000yen per hour and per person), selling commodities, and light meals. Udon noodles and curry and rice are available. The branding for pilgrim's staff costs 200yen. There are 2 types of branding. If you get both of them, it costs 300yen. Tomae-Kan has another mountain lodge at the 7th station, and you will get some benefit if you stay at either of them. Except the timing of the full occupancy, if you stay at either of Tomoe-Kan mountain lodge, you can take a rest, deposit your bag, meet up with friends, and stay at the lodge. These are helpful service.

Other information

Every summer, during the crowded peak season, the number of the car is controlled on Fuji Subaruline (Mt.Fuji Tool Road) to preserve the nature of Mt. Fuji, and to reduce the traffic jam. During this term, private cars are not allowed to go to 5th station. Park your car at designated free parking lots near you, and take a pay shuttle bus or other alternative transportation.
