Sakana Park

Main content starts here.

Sakana Park in Oshino was established in 2001 as a theme park celebrating forests and water: a nod to its rich natural surroundings and the clear spring waters originating from Mount Fuji. A stroll through the green space takes you past streams and fountains using groundwater from the sacred peak. The park is popular with locals and visitors alike, and is an excellent place for bird-watchers to spot feathered friends.

The park is home to Mori no Gakushukan, or the Forest Learning Centre. As the name suggests, this octagonal building is a place to learn all about the flora and fauna in local forests. Its exhibits also enlighten visitors about the culture of Oshino and the natural features of Mt. Fuji, including its volcanic activity and spring water. Plant samples, acorns, and cuttings foraged from nearby mountains are displayed along with explanations of their qualities and uses, giving insight into the local people’s eco-friendly lifestyle.
