Area:Isawa/Katsunuma/Nishizawa Gorge

There is a colony of Japanese lily and valley (Nihon Suzulan) in the valley between Kurodake mountain and Shakagatake mountain at the highest upstream of Ashigawa-cho. It is quite rare that the precious species of ‘Nihon-Suzuran (Japanese lily and valley) grows in colonies and it is designated as the Natural Monument of Yamanashi prefecture. The forest of Suzuran (lily and valley) is located about 1,300 meters above sea level. You should enjoy walking in the forest that natural white birch grove and wildflower spread. It takes about 20 minutes to walk on the well-paved walking trail. At the end of May of every year,‘Suzuran Festival (Lily and valley Festival) is held, and the place is crowded with tourists to see the pretty blossoms of lily and valley.
