Kamaiwa-Kan (Mountain Lodge)

Main content starts here.

It is Lucky 7. Kamaiwa-Kan (Mountain Lodge) is located at the 7th station of Mt.Fuji. This is the historical mountain lodge which appears as a Chaya (Rest station) in a literature of end of the Edo period. The bedrock surrounding Kamaiwa-kan is written in chinese characters' KAMAIWA (god-full–rock)’ or ‘KAMAIWA (Kettle-rock). It is said that the bedrock was named like those because the shape of the rock resembles character of KANMAN from the Sanskrit characters of Fumyodo-oh. What’s more, there is a small lava tree mold (not opened to public) at the lodge’s side, and it is said that a mother who drinks the dripping water coming from between the rocks, will have plenty of brest-milk. Nowadays, at the household altar in the mountain lodge, the stone mother of the guardian deity of easy delivery which is cuddling a baby, is enshrined. Because climbing Mt.Fuji is difficult for pregnant women, their husbands come to pray wives’ easy delivery. It takes 2 and half hours walking from 5th station. It takes 3 hours to the peak of Mt.Fuji. The 2 night tour with walking slowly and staying at the mountain lodges is getting popular.
