Satomidaira-Seikan-so (Mountain lodge)

Main content starts here.

Seikanso is a mountain hut located at the 6th Station on Mt. Fuji’s Yoshida Trail, with an elevation of 2325 meters. The hut’s electricity is generated in-house, so you won’t need to worry about power outages. The toilets are clean and fully flushable (a new feature for mountain huts on Mt. Fuji). In the morning, a 5-minute climb will take you to Kyogatake (Rokkakudo). If you look out from the rocks behind there, you can watch the sunrise as it emerges from the darkness, east of Lake Yamanaka (one of the Fuji Five Lakes), and blankets you in its dazzlingly beautiful light. In the afternoon, overlooking the sea of white clouds down below will make you feel like you are soaring freely throughout the endless blue sky. If you shift your glance down even further, you can see the world beneath you stretch far beyond the horizon, including the overlooking view of the famous Fuji Five Lakes. At night, if you look up at the sky you can see the stars come alive and shine all around you. With so many more stars shining visibly brighter, it appears as if an infinite amount of diamond shards have been scattered across the night sky. Experience the mysterious beauty of our universe first-hand, by gazing up at the hut’s view of the stars that look close enough to touch.

Other Indoor Activities

  • The Narusawa area’s roadside rest and shopping hub offers the visitor splendid views of Mount Fuji and much more. The shop in the main building sells freshly harvested local highland fruits and vegetables, as well as locally brewed sake and ready-to-eat condiments.

  • Viewing Mount Fuji on its own is splendid enough, but it is in relation to the surrounding mountains that one can begin to comprehend the sheer scale and size of Japan’s most iconic mountain. This observation deck offers that opportunity.

  • All throughout Aokigahara Forest are underground caves formed by lava from the massive eruption of Mount Fuji in 864 CE. One of these is the Fugaku Wind Cave, which has an average internal temperature of 3°C and was historically used as a natural refrigerator.
