Misakatoge Pass Hill Climb

The Misakatoge Pass Hill Climb has an ordinary-level gradient of around 6%, and this is a winding course with a short distance and few changes overall on average. Just before the finish line there is a retro-style tunnel, and this is so impressive if you ever pass through it, you will not forget it. Beyond this tunnel, at the finish line Tenka-jaya Teahouse, there are amazing views of Lake Kawaguchiko and Mt. Fuji.

Key point

When you come out of the tunnel, Mt. Fuji comes into view and another world blooms before your eyes. The teahouse is a great place to enjoy a break.

Strategy

There are a series of hairpin curves, and these can be climbed while maintaining a rhythm without changing gears. In several locations the hairpin curves have gentle gradients, and these are good places for the resting your legs while pedaling. But if you are looking to improve your time, it is best to avoid resting too much at these spots.

Course guide

The starting point is at the gate. A gentle slope continues for a while from here. The course gets tougher after 1 km, so make sure not to set too fast a pace here.

The next stretch is through a tunnel of trees. It is shady here, so cool in the summer, and it is possible to ride here while enjoying the sunlight filtering through the trees.

The last section starts after 4 km. The views suddenly become unobstructed, and it is possible to look out at the surrounding mountains. This is the final stretch. There is a tunnel before the finish line.

The finish line is Tenka-jaya Teahouse. Amazing views can be enjoyed from here.
