Forest Immersion Trail Run

The Forest Immersion Trail Run is a course mainly on walking paths and forest roads through a precious primeval forest. The primeval forest at Mt. Fuji (Aokigahara Forest) consists of many species of trees, including Japanese hemlock, Japanese cypress, tigertail spruce, Japanese beech, and Fujizakura cherry, that grew on top of the lava ejected during the Jogan eruption of 864. There is an abundance of wildlife here, including deer, serow, and Japanese squirrels, and the landscape of moss-covered lava rocks mixed with trees appears very mysterious. Along the course between Mt. Shiro and Mt. Eboshi, there are great views of Mt. Fuji. Also, the negative ions that are generated in this beautiful natural environment help to make this course enjoyable throughout the body.

Key point

This course is part of the 1,697-km long “Tokai Nature Trail,” which is on par with the “Meiji no Mori Takao Quasi-National Park” in Tokyo and the “Meiji no Mori Mino Quasi-National Park” in Osaka Prefecture. It was completed in 1974 and has been protected by local communities since then. It is possible for visitors to encounter the mysteries of nature in this forest where the primeval landscapes are still in tact.

Strategy

The path has many bumps such as lava rocks and tree roots, so be careful not to trip on these while running. About 2 km after the starting point, the course goes up two mountains. Take care to set a moderate pace in order to avoid using up all your energy on these ascents.

Course guide

Start from the front of Shoji Elementary School site.

The course goes along Tokai Nature Trail and toward Mt. Shiro (elevation 1,056 m). Tokai Nature Trail is overflowing with nature, and is a precious path that has existed since long ago.

The course then rises to its highest elevation at Mt. Eboshi (1,257 m), and proceeds to a path along Lake Motosuko. Along the way, there are places with impressive views of Mt. Fuji.

The course runs along a Motosu woodland path where it is possible to see mysterious landscapes of moss-covered lava rocks mixed with evergreen trees.

After arriving at a prefectural road, the course runs through Aokigahara Forest along the Shoji-guchi Mountain Trail. It then returns to Tokai Nature Trail, and this is the finish line.
