Trail running styles. Attractive features of, and how to enjoy trail running.

We interviewed several participants of the "Threepeaks Yatsugatake Trail" about their own "style", including the attractive features of this sport and how it can be enjoyed.

This is what's good about trail running!

I started road running 10 years ago, and then 3 years ago I started trial running. I came to the mountain in the summer, and fell in love with the feeling I got. By running in the mountains rather than on flatlands, I get to enjoy the experience of getting myself in the mud or touching the grass and tree branches. Another thing I find attractive is that I can be away from my daily life.

It is best to ask someone with experience when choosing gears. I choose my shoes according to the distance and course.

This is what's good about trail running!

I have 10 years of experience in marathon, and 4 years in triathlon. The charm of this competition is how I can view the scenery while passing the mountains and countryside. I think it became popular around my area around 2 years ago. Yamanashi is close to Tokyo and the weather is nice every time I come to visit. I also like to visit in winter because I can enjoy skiing.

This is what's good about trail running!

It's been a year since I started trail running. It's a competition where I get to enjoy better scenery than the roads, be engaged and make use of my instincts. I do care a little about the time record, but since in my job it's been about aiming to win, now I'd just like to participate leisurely and enjoy it.

This is what's good about trail running!

I started participating in the Japan Mountain Endurance Race after I was invited by an acquaintance. It's a tough but fun sport, and now I participate in competitions around 3 to 5 times a year. Although climbing uphill is exhausting, it is exhilarating when going downhill. The scenery you get to see is different from those along normal roads. There is also this sense of accomplishment when you reach the finish line. I recommend beginners to also try out this challenge, starting from short races, so that they know the charm of trail running.
