Golf courses with unbroken spectacular
views of Mt. Fuji!

Yamanashi is of course known for Mt. Fuji! Playing golf while taking in spectacular views of Japan’s tallest peak Mt. Fuji, a World Cultural Heritage Site, is an enjoyable experience unique to golf courses in Yamanashi.

There are a number of expansive golf courses at the foot of Mt. Fuji that provide beautiful views of the mountain. Each of these has its own feel, and enables players to experience distinctive Mt. Fuji in a unique way.

Fuji Classic

“Fuji Classic” is a highly original golf course that was designed by the prominent golf course designer Desmond Muirhead in an area with an elevation of 1,200 m based on the theme of Katsushika Hokusai’s “Fugaku Sanju-rokkei (Thirty-six Views of Mt. Fuji)” woodblock prints. From each of the holes, it is possible to take in a different view of Mt. Fuji. Each hole has been given a name taken from the “Fugaku Sanju-rokkei,” such as “Minobu-gawa ura-Fuji (Back view of Fuji from Minobu River)” and “Kanagawa-oki nami ura (The Great Wave off Kanagawa),” and even the holes themselves have been constructed with a Hokusai woodblock print motif. Visiting here is almost like entering the world of Hokusai’s artistic works! As such, Fuji Classic is truly a uniquely beautiful course with spectacular views of Mt. Fuji.

Fuji Golf Course

“Fuji Golf Course” is a traditional-style golf course that was opened in 1935, and it is the only golf course to have been supervised by doctor of engineering Kazue Akashi, who is considered to be a genius. The course makes clever use of the topography at the foot of Mt. Fuji. The fairways are wide and completely flat, and the intervals between courses are short, so this course is recommended for playing “walking golf” while taking in views of Mt. Fuji in a leisurely manner! The surprisingly beautiful views of majestic Mt. Fuji right before one’s eyes are impressive.

Fuji Lakeside Country Club

“Fuji Lakeside Country Club,” provides spectacular views of Mt. Fuji and overlooks Lake Kawaguchiko below, and is the only golf course to have “Mt. Fuji” in its postal address. It is on a plateau with an elevation of 1,000 m, and in a great location for hitting shots in the direction of the sacred peak of Mt. Fuji. This golf course opened 1960 as the first members-only course in Yamanashi Prefecture. It is a long-established course that is one of the best in the prefecture, and it is known as a strategy-rich hill course with a high level of difficulty. This is the sister club of “Fujizakura Country Club,” and it is a historic golf course where professional tournaments such as the Fujisankei Ladies Classic have been held.

It addition to great course play, another enjoyable aspect of golf courses in Yamanashi is the fact that it is possible to take in spectacular views of Mt. Fuji that are unique to each course! How about trying out various golf courses and finding your favorite?
